Jim Macrae Honored at White House Ceremony

HRSA Associate Administrator Jim Macrae was awarded a 2022 Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service, the highest recognition in the Senior Executive Service. Last week, he formally received his award at a ceremony in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

The award recognizes the challenges COVID-19 presented and how Jim responded. But he is quick to point out that it was all of you, as well as bureau staff, who “answered the call.”

The National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Updated Diabetes Recognition Program

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognizes clinicians who use evidence-based measures to provide quality care to their patients. Visit NCQA's website to see their refreshed program for diabetes care, including a new platform and updated measure set, and to apply for recognition (select “Get Started”).

NCQA has, via a sponsor, a limited grant covering the application fees for up to five clinicians per organization. Use the QPASS Sponsor code “DPPS24” during the application submission.

HRSA’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) held a 2024 preview webinar earlier this month. Speakers shared anticipated funding opportunities and “hidden gems” — resources and projects that may not be well-known. Watch the recording.


HRSA’s March Roundup

In March, HRSA convened stakeholders on the Biden-Harris Administration’s fiscal year 2025 budget, presented at the AIDSWatch Conference, highlighted the Health Center Program at the Advocates for Community Health meeting, announced a new initiative to support opioid treatment and recovery services in rural communities, led a roundtable on the state of the nursing workforce, and hosted a conference on maternal mortality for state health leaders. CMS Fact Sheet: Potential for Medicare Part B Coverage of PrEP Using Antiretroviral Therapy to Prevent HIV

CMS released a Fact Sheet for the Potential National Coverage Determination (NCD) for Preexposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Using Antiretroviral Drugs to Prevent HIV (PDF). CMS has not announced any coverage changes; however, many interested parties commented on the proposed NCD last year. Some commenters were concerned that a change to Part B coverage might be disruptive for patients who had been receiving coverage under Part D. CMS is sharing as much information as possible before issuing a NCD to avoid any possible disruptions for beneficiaries.

Join Health Partners on IPV + Exploitation for a learning collaborative focused on the intersection of behavioral health, intimate partner violence (IPV), and mental health and substance use coercion. Presenters — a panel of survivors, joined by faculty — will offer strategies to provide holistic care and improve outcomes for patients. Nurturing Mothers: A Webinar Series on Breastfeeding Support and Maternal Mental Health

The National Nurse-Led Care Consortium (NNCC) and the National Center for Health in Public Housing (NCHPH) invite you to a webinar series addressing the critical postpartum gap in care and maternal mental health. Speakers will focus on equipping health care professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to support maternal mental health and breastfeeding and improve outcomes, particularly in communities of color. Join part two of our series to connect the dots between medical malpractice claims and risk mitigation through patient/family engagement, safe transition plans, process and policy design and implementation, and team communication.
